DOTP / plasticiser plant

DOTP is preferred as a general-purpose primary plasticiser. It is highly compatible with PVC, processes very well, and can replace ortho-phthalates one for one in the process. Thanks to its low volatility and low migration it is used as the primary plasticiser in many PVC applications, mostly in systems that call for high tensile strength and easy processing. DOTP / plasticiser production plants are one of Makfen's most important areas of specialisation.

The characteristic properties of DOTP in summary:

• Plastisol viscosity is very stable and does not change for days, which gives a product of more uniform thickness.
• Because of its structure it is self-lubricating, so plastisol preparation takes less time and less energy.
• Thanks to its low volatility, DOTP can be used in place of DINP and DIDP.
• Because its structure differs from that of ortho-phthalate plasticisers, its migration is very low, so materials made with DOTP last longer.
• Unlike the ortho-phthalates whose use is restricted in many European countries in articles that come into direct contact with people, such as toys, nappies, medical supplies, artificial leather and water hoses, DOTP is not classified as a carcinogen. Products made with it can be labelled "ortho-phthalate free".
• Because of its low migration, the material does not stick to lacquered surfaces, an unwanted effect in PVC-based products known as "lacquer marring".
• Its linear structure gives it excellent low-temperature flexibility, which reduces the brittleness of the plastic at low temperatures.
• Its excellent electrical properties make it a preferred plasticiser in cable manufacturing.
