Autoclave

Makfen manufactures autoclaves and sterilisation equipment and has served the field of autoclaves and medical sterilisation for many years. The autoclave was invented by Charles Chamberland in 1879. Its name is derived from the Greek auto (self) and the Latin clavis (key) and means "self-locking device".

In terms of working principle, autoclaving is the general name for the process of freeing laboratory equipment (glassware, culture media, waste materials) and medical supplies from the microorganisms on or in them (sterilisation) under high temperature and pressure.

Because it destroys microbes, the autoclave is also widely used in canning fruit and vegetables, and besides sterilisation it can be used for other processes, such as laminating automotive glass.

An autoclave sterilises with pressurised steam: in an atmosphere saturated with steam it sterilises at temperatures above 100 °C. At 121 °C, which corresponds to about 1 atm above atmospheric pressure (roughly 2 atm absolute), it frees the load of all unwanted microorganisms in as little as 15-20 minutes.
