The foam increases in volume with atmospheric moisture and expands where it is applied, sealing the area. Because polyurethane foams can act as a waterproof barrier, they are very effective for repairing cracks.

Some of the other main uses of polyurethane foams are as follows:

• Fitting doors and windows; insulating electrical installations and hot and cold water pipes; bonding roof tiles; sealing terraces and the shear walls of buildings; industrial roof insulation; cold stores and ice plants; the decks of ships and yachts; filling the gaps between external wall insulation boards; bonding insulation materials; and filling and insulating voids in dry food stores.
• After application the foam expands in place. It is used for repairing and fitting doors and windows, and because of its very high bond strength it cannot easily be removed from the surfaces it is applied to.
